A letter from the Editor:

In the Good ‘Ole Summertime

Wherever we live we have the ability to enjoy the great outdoors. Doesn’t this time of year breed more physical activity (dice rolling doesn’t count)? If you sit quietly you’ll notice the sounds of summer are vastly different than those of winter: kids giggling from a pool, neighbors gardening and entertaining, and the sound of hummingbirds as they drink from your flowers. These sounds let us know that the Good ‘Ole Summertime is in full swing.

In this edition we wanted to share with you a unique Bunco group, which is profiled in the “Bunco thru the Years” segment, along with their questions for Babs.

Don't forget to read below about what Mac has been cooking up this summer: Let the Good Times Roll yum yum yum!!!

Latest News:

We at the World Bunco Association have enjoyed you sharing your summer plans with us; it makes us feel as we are part of a huge family. Along the same lines I am personally thrilled at the response we have received regarding the “Director’s Application”. We just launched the application process after the July newsletter was posted, and your eagerness to become part of the WBA is fantastic. Since some groups are less active in the summer we are waiting until the middle of September to start implementation. We are re-running the article in our It’s Bunco Time section just in case you didn’t see the last newsletter. So players……, tell your friends because it could be something, someone, in your group is interested in.

Also, the WBA would like to inform you that we have heard your requests for an online community that will enable you to find clubs and groups in your area. You will find this community at your disposal in the next month or so, is that exciting or WHAT?

It's Bunco Time:

ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?

!!!Calling all Bunco Players!!!

The WBA is Creating Affiliate State Bunco Associations

The World Bunco Association is implementing a program nationwide. Many of you players have either expressed a desire to participate underneath the WBA umbrella or have asked if there was a group near you. Since the World Bunco Association prides itself on community, social interaction, and fundraising we felt that collaboration was essential. Please follow this link to review the qualifications for a state director and a regional director.

 Bunco thru the Years:

Wouldn’t you agree that Bunco playing is worldwide? And, the game Bunco, in and of itself is historical? So, it would be safe to say that there are Bunco groups whose stories one could run across, okay roll across, which would be considered unique?

There is such a group, with a story, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Debra O Scott is the player who contacted us with questions for this month’s Ask Babs column, on behalf of the players in her group.

This group plays every month, as do most others with the exception of July and August. This group recently participated in a mini tournament with three Bunco groups from California and will be the host group for the same event next year.

Nothing out of the ordinary so far, right? Four years ago Las Vegas Bunco Babes was created by Lauren Beers as a deaf only group. The cabinet is as follows: Vice-President, Leah Montes, Secretary is Ms. Sherry Nelson and of course Lauren Beers is the President and yes, all are deaf.

Since the start of this group they have invited some hearing players which have now become permanent members. Debra, who you remember sent the questions to Bab’s, was the only hearing player allowed to participate in the mini tournament because she grew up in a 4 generation deaf family. She is also pleased to be one of the co-hosts for the Las Vegas Bunco Babes September game and invites anyone who is local to contact her if you’d like to pay a visit: debranlou@earthlink.net .

Thank you Debra for letting the World Bunco Association know about the unique Bunco group you are involved in.

*Ask Babs:

babs@worldbunco.com

1) WHEN ONE OR TWO DICE FALL OFF THE TABLE ONTO THE FLOOR, PICK THEM UP AND RE- ROLL THESE ONE OR TWO DICE FALLEN TO THE FLOOR
INSTEAD OF ALL THE DICE TO ROLL ...
Re-roll all of the dice.

2) "A TIE AND UNCOMPLETE GAME"..... WHEN THE VIP TABLE FINISHES THE GAME IN A SHORT TIME WHILE OTHERS DO NOT FINISH WITHIN EACH TURN PER PERSON, SHOULD IT BE RESOLVED BY SAYING "TOO BAD" OR BE GIVEN A FINAL CHANCE TO FINISH THE GAME FROM THE FIRST TO LAST PERSON ON THE TABLE IN ORDER TO FINALIZE WHO WINS THE GAME.
Each person gets the same amount of rolls.

3) SHOULD THE MOST LOSING PERSON RECIEVE THE LOWEST PRIZE THAN THE DRAWING PRIZE?
The lowest prize

4) IF ANYONE'S HANDS OR ARMS WERE HIT BY ROLLING DICE, SHOULD
THERE BE A RULE FOR ANOTHER ROLLOVER DEPENDING ON ACCIDENTAL OR PURPOSEFUL ACTIONS?
Re-roll all of the dice at one time.

5)  THE WAY HOW SOME PLAYERS ROLL THEIR DICE, USE A CHEAT METHOD BY JUST DROPPING THEM IN A LOW WAY TOWARDS THE TABLE. IN ORDER TO PREVENT THIS, EACH PLAYER MUST SHAKE AND THROW-ROLL THEIR DICE FROM THEIR CLOSED PALMS
Correct

6) IF THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE TIED FOR THE MOST BUNCO, ONE OF THEM
SHOULD COMPETE TO WIN BY ROLLING THE DICE AND THEN AFTERWARDS, WHOEVER LOSES CAN STILL RECIEVE THE MOST 1ST PLACE WIN OR JOIN WITH OTHERS WHO ARE TIED FOR THE MOST 1ST PLACE WIN TO PLAY BY A FINAL DICE PLAY, THUS CAN HAVE A CHANCE TO BECOME A WINNER, CORRECT?
No, the person who loses the roll off is done, unless, they are
also tied for the most wins.

7) IF THERE ARE THREE OR FOUR PLAYERS TIED FOR THE WIN OR MOST 1ST  WINS, THEN THEY HAVE TO PLAY AND ROLL THE DICE TO SEE WHO WINS THEN  ARRANGE THEM ACCORDING TO 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH WINS FOR THE  PRIZE. WHICH IS DEPENDANT ON THEIR SCORE IN ORDER WITHOUT THE NEED TO RE-PLAY THE DICE FOR A 2ND OR 3RD 4TH PRIZES...

Normally if there is a roll off for the most wins the player who wins the roll off gets the "most wins" prize. We don't necessarily give prizes for the 2nd most wins, 3rd most wins etc. You can give prizes to the 2nd and 3rd player, it's not the "official" way of playing but, if that's how your group plays that's great. Mixing up the rules once in a while is fun.

* all questions for the Ask Bab’s column were published as sent.

Please note: In last month's column we said we would be updating the rules of Bunco in Spanish. We would like you to know that we are still working on this... sorry Melinda this should be converted soon.

Simple, Savory Summer Favorites

There is still time to indulge in cuisine that is special to summer. So, keep that barbeque hot and enjoy these recipes with your Bunco group or family.

Sliders

3 1/2 lbs. ground beef

1 small garlic clove

1 tablespoon steak seasoning

4 oz. sliced cheddar cheese

2-3 packages Kings Hawaiian buns

Condiments (optional!)

Grilled onions (optional)

Finely chop garlic. Add garlic and seasoning to ground beef. Knead and mix together until combined. Form into small patties and place on the grill. Slice cheese. Once patties are almost ready, place cheese on top of patties as well as the top half of hamburger bun. Keep on the grill for another 2 minutes. Remove from grill and place on bottom buns. They are ready to serve! Condiments may be added, but are not necessary! If grilled onions are desired, cut then grill in a pan until well browned and serve on top of the cheese.

Grandma's Macaroni Salad

36 oz small macaroni pasta

3 tablespoons mayonnaise (or to your liking)

1 jar pimento

4 stalks celery

4 oz. diced cheddar cheese

Salt/Pepper to taste

Cook pasta in boiling water until done (time amount depends on the pasta shape). Once pasta is drained, combine all ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Smores Tart

2 cups graham cracker crumbs

1/3 cup white sugar

7 tablespoons of melted butter

16 oz semi sweet baker's chocolate

2 jars marshmallow creme

1 bag mini marshmallows

Preheat oven to 375F. Grind graham crackers into fine crumbs. In a bowl combine crumbs, sugar, and melted butter. Pat the mixture into pie tin or rectangle shaped glass baking dish. Bake until just golden, about 8 minutes. Remove to cool and place in the refrigerator to chill. When pie crust is thoroughly cold, pour melted chocolate on top to form a 1/2 inch thick layer.

Return to fridge to chill. Once chocolate is chilled to a semi-hard consistency pour marshmallow crème on top. Chill tart for two hours and take out one hour prior to cutting. Before serving, sprinkle top of tart with mini marshmallows and place under a hot broiler until semi-melted and toasted. Cut into squares or slices and enjoy!
